The 2011 Skills Canada Soap Box Derby competition.

Skills Canada is hosting one of their first annual Cardboard Soap Box Derbies for elementary and high schools and our fellow Elmira students have decided to participate. The teachers in charge are as follows; Mr. Derma, Mr. Shantz and Mr. Pozzobon. The sign up for this event hasn’t occurred yet but there is team of four students willing to participate.

The Soap Box Derby will be held on Thursday, March 8th 2011 on100 Campbell Ave. Suite 11. There is a registration fee of $80.00 per team. The cars will engage in speed, distance and agility challenges on a race track. Cars can be made out from wood, metal plastic, rope and rubber.

Noah Stienmann, Dan Letkeman, Terrence Lubbert and Josh Huebner are planning on participating in the event. “We haven’t heard much about it, we’re signing up next week along with having a meeting so I don’t know a lot about it yet but we’ve got our team and we’re looking forward to it,” Noah Stienmann explains. This will be the first year EDSS is a part of something like this.
